D-Day
D-Day is a table top wargame, set on 6th June 1944, at the time of the allied D-DAY invasion. D-Day was programmed by Dagenham Design Cell on behalf of Games Workshop (now more famous for their Dungeons and Dragons games), in SuperBASIC.
In common with the version released for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum (also by Games Workshop), D-Day has four scenarios - two based on the area around Caen (the landing and break-out), in Normandy, and two based in and around Arnhem. Here, you can control either the Allies or the Germans as they fight to gain control of the bridges and forge ahead towards Arnheim.
You could elect to play the set scenarios of 50 units per side, or set up your own default units to start on each side. Unlike the earlier ZX Spectrum version, the Sinclair QL D-Day included the ability to play against the computer, but not the ability to play against another person. A version for the Commodore C64 was also planned (indeed it was advertised as "coming soon" but it does not appear to have ever been released).
A much enhanced version of D-Day was written by RWAP Software, with the approval of Games Workshop and released as D-Day MKII.
